Create and restore server backups

Create a backup

  1. 1Open the server in Hydrodactyl.
  2. 2Open the Backups area.
  3. 3Choose Create Backup.
  4. 4Give the backup a clear name that describes the change you are about to make.
  5. 5Wait until the backup finishes before editing or deleting important files.
Best times to back up

Create a backup before replacing a project, changing major dependencies, editing production configuration, reinstalling, or doing anything that would be difficult to undo manually.

Restore a backup

Restoring rewinds server files to the backup state. Files created after that backup may be replaced or removed depending on the panel restore behavior, so confirm you selected the correct backup.

  1. 1Stop the application if the panel asks you to or if the restore could conflict with running writes.
  2. 2Open Backups and choose the backup you want.
  3. 3Use the restore action and confirm it.
  4. 4Wait for the restore to complete.
  5. 5Start the server and verify the console and application behavior.

Download a backup

If Hydrodactyl exposes a download action for the completed backup, use it to keep an off-server copy. A local copy is useful before deleting a server or making a change that could affect panel storage.
